About Mrs. Mansfield
I am a New Jersey native, growing up in Readington, NJ and attending Hunterdon Central Regional High School. After high school I attended The University of Delaware, where I graduated with a degree in Secondary Biological Science Education and a minor in Chemistry. I continued my education with a Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Scranton. I have been teaching at Summit High School since 2005. In that time I have taught every level of biology and environmental science and starting in 2024 Marine Biology and Zoology. In addition to teaching I have coached the JV girls' volleyball team, helped out with girls' freshman lacrosse, and advised the Summit Outdoor Earth Club (OEC).
When I'm not at school I enjoy spending time with my family as well as traveling and learning as much as possible. Since I started teaching I have spent summers expanding my knowledge in a variety of ways, including:
Observing how recreational human activities impacts the gray seals on the coastal waters of Devon, England through an Earthwatch Expedition
Helping with research at the Yanayacu Biological Station in Cosanga, Ecuador. Studying parasitoids, caterpillars, and host plants in an attempt to understand the potential impacts that are occurring in the cloud forests due to a changing global climate.
Participating in conservation efforts at a Lemur Preserve in Mayaka City, FL and learning of various conservation practices throughout the world.
Learning about coastal marine ecology and participating in various research programs at MarineLab through the Marine Research and Development Foundation in Key Largo, FL
Earning additional Graduate credits at San Diego Zoo Conservation Institute through the UCSD.
Attending and participating in various iSTEM workshops and classes.
